Study Medicine at The University of Dundee
Dundee offer a five-year medical programme that follows a spiral curriculum inwhich each year revisits and builds upon the knowledge learnt in the previousyears to gradually consolidate and expand level of understanding. Teachinginvolves a combinationof traditional lectures, problem-based learning, case-based learning andsmall-group work/teaching.
Learning in the first three years takes place through a system-based approachthat looks into the body in both health and disease states. The basics ofmedical science are taught with a focus on bringing clinical contexts into thelearning process anddeveloping clinical thinking abilities early on in medical students.Studentsalso get the chance to learn essential anatomy knowledge though cadavericdissection which offers a unique understanding like no other.
After the first three pre-clinical years, student can intercalate in a field ofinterest and obtain a BMSc degree. During fourth and fifth year, focus ismassively shifted to clinical education and training across the medicalspecialties primarily throughplacements in hospitals, GPs and other healthcare settings. Clinical educationsinvolves ward-based learning, simulation-based learning as well as the DundeeLongitudinal Integrated Clerkship.
